what with our epenthetic /p/, and [p~f] alteration, i bet this is another affix -aq.
—wait hold up a second does qwamaq have the same suffix? i am trying to resist looking at the documentation i have for this one but that would really cool if like qwam was a root. i wonder if it is, i don’t remember seeing it anywhere…

also i think we can confirm the 'epi thing:

Speaking of which, I pointed to his hand motions when he did it once and he took a needle out of his pocket (which he just had I guess?) and pointed at it and said “ʃopikrif epi” And I remembered the word “ikrif” from the previous visit; it meant “person.” So I pointed at myself and at him, and I asked “ʃopikrif epi?” But he responded nodding and saying “ʃopikrif ano.” So I assume that’s a first person plural pronoun. Next time I visit I will have to pay attention to the pronouns.

i think our 'epi here is the same one maybe. “it is a person”?

if this i true it would confirm that lipamanka is, in fact, beef wellington /j

jokes aside, with the sarong having the same same root “kaʃu”, it’d make sense to analyze the sarong as something like “wrapping”, and the wellington as “that which is wrapped”… although with the sewing metaphor, maybe something to do with “cloth” would make more sense… either way its some type of len.

probably! but I’m not sure; often words just end with the same sequence as affixes. but I would expect to see back formations; I’ll have to ask more.

:thinking: some more analysis, this time of pronouns and verb morphology. I still need to collect more data…

just visited qwamaq land again. took lots of recordings and i have a bunch more data! expect some longer examples for the next post (coming later today probably!)

:pear::melon::hot_pepper: Y’all my new favorite food might be Alappalamonta… maybe I’ll make a recipe at some point.

rudementary idea on how to replicate the Alappalamonta sauce with ingredients found in our world:

  • grind together Szechuan peppercorns and a few other spices (like probably carrot family spices, i.e. cumin coriander caraway etc)
  • add wine to a pan and reduce until it tickens. Add a little flour in a roux.
  • mix citric acid (either in powdered form or like from a lime or lemon) and baking soda with a little water (leave out the water if you used a lemon or a lime) to create sodium citrate
  • mix the sodium citrate mixture to the cooled wine sauce
  • add tahini and a neutral oil (or any oil) slowly while whisking continuously. The sauce should get thicker.
  • add msg and salt to taste. serve over vegetables.
