Today is the Twelfth of Lee, marking the two-thousand twenty-second anniversary of the death of the third avatar Kuva He'ejteho.
I know it's evening for me now, but oh well. Noon today (local time), horns blast thru the air, and everyone in town will gather in the main square (of their city or boro, depending on how the local clergy divides it up and how big the city is)
Traditional celebrations include prayer, meditation, social activities and games, public readings of the Voslhemow, and the creation/maintenance of large candle-lit offering tables, similar to ofrendas on home altars, to remember not just Kuva, but all dead ancestors. Before nitefall, sweet foods are generally avoided while bitter, pungent, and sour foods are eaten to symbolically represent the sadness of death. After sunset, dessert in the form of both savory and sweet foods is consumed to symbolically remind celebrators of the sweetness that comes with being closer to Ma'ein in the afterlife.
