I just changed email notification settings for all users to be reduced as our AWS SES (email service) is quickly racking up in costs. Please verify your notification settings to make sure they’re correct.
Additionally, digest emails have been disabled to reduce the number of emails sent every week by >60. If you miss digest emails, consider turning on tracking/watching notifications for categories or topics.
Also, Discourse already has a great built-in notification system, so you aren’t losing much if you disable emails completely.
Note that if you do like the e-mails, feel free to turn them on. Our assumption was that for most folk, the update e-mails went straight to their spam box, so there was no purpose in paying for them. If you do like them, feel free to turn them back on. We just decided that off was a better default.
+1, the update emails were actively annoying me but not enough to turn them off, so this is much appreciated
