On September 27, 2024 (in PDT), conlangs, from space! was created after a discussion about archivability and sustainability of Discord-based conlang development and speaker communities in the Toaq discord server. Now, it is September 27, 2025 (in UTC), and conlangs, from space! is now one year old.
Happy birthday, CFS! ^_^
I'd like to thank every single one of you for supporting this little forum this entire time. Even though it's been slow at times, interest has always remained, and the familiar faces that pop in every once in a while are always a pleasant reminder of the good people in my life and good things I can do with it.
I'd like to give a special thanks to a few people, though.
@zearen, thank you for accompanying me in the development and maintaining of CFS from day one. You have always been a supportive figure throughout, whether it be financially or functionally, and your wisdom rings true forever.
@TheAndSys, @salarua, and the rest of the Toaq crowd not mentioned, thank you for being the inspiration and driving force behind CFS. In slow periods, there was conscious effort to bring a much needed breath of life. It made CFS feel more homely.
@silviautism, @la_travuhe, @emyfel, @flirora, @intothevoid5074, @deschutron, @TheAndSys, and all the workshoppers, thank you for sharing your creations with us. I love reading about them and seeing the creativity, but most importantly the joy you derive from them.
@The-Menagerie, @Isi, @neverRare, @ookap, @funbreaker, @kijetesantakalu, @luna, and other frequent faces, thank you for being here, even if it's just to check for new posts once in a while, popping up in the chat or in a reply is always fun.
I have some things in store for CFS. A much needed site-wide update is coming on 2025-09-29T07:00:00Z. I will be bringing down the website for the entire day for maintenance and updates. Additionally, I'd like to run a little event of some kind. I'd love to get some thoughts on what we could do as a community for fun! I thought of a collaborative worldbuilding project, people can plot places on a map and make a little town or community for their language, or think about some fun interactions between them, like culture sharing or little folk stories!
I'd also like to touch on some things that I could do better to make CFS the best it could be. I've been a little neglectful of site maintenance, which is why I'd like to catch up on it on the 29th. I've had to dedicate a lot of time early this year to managing my mental health and other endeavors while balancing a toxic work cycle. Later this year, I am without a job, and finances are getting extremely rough. I am working on getting a stable income again, no need to worry about CFS. Everything's been paid for, and I'm working on reducing costs.
I really should post some of those things I've been working on, even if they are incomplete. I should talk more about non-conlang things in the Community section. I think bringing us together by shared interest in things more than just conlangs would make the vibes really cool. I kind of dropped my own conlang project due to other things in my life taking more priority, like work and friends and development projects... ough. I'd love to get back in the groove of writing more, and with that my own silly little minilangs that I make for those stories or worlds. I am also working on other projects in my life, like managing an open source game community and developing for it, or just generally doing things that make me happy, like playing and improving at the video games I love.
I guess that was sort of a "new year's resolution" for CFS, wasn't it? Does anyone else have a new year's resolution for the next year of CFS? I'd love to hear about that too!
Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope we can make the next year of the conlangs from space even more conlang and even more space.
