toki pona taso Minecraft SMP development log

I've been discussing it among friends for a while, but I think it's time I talked about it with a more public crowd.

I've been actively planning out a prototype of a modded Minecraft server, where the only required mod is a voice chat mod; everything else is implemented server-side. It's organized nearly entirely in-game besides small meta interactions like scheduling and updates. It's also a limited experience, where the server is only up during specific periods throughout the week (accommodating for time zones and the availability of players as a whole) and after a certain point the server will be taken down.

But the most important thing about this server is that it's story-driven, where players will not only be interacting with each other in a mysterious alternate dimension, but also with the mysterious alternate dimension and its various secrets. I haven't ironed out all of the key points of the plot yet, but I do know a few things that I'd like to have.
EDIT: It'll just be a for fun thing with no roleplaying.

The server will have a constrained but tailored world. Transportation methods will be very important as the world is treacherous to navigate. The world will be handcrafted to feel otherworldly and mystical.
EDIT: Too much work for a handcrafted world.

This whole thing is actually a precursor to a larger idea that will take a lot more to execute, which is why I'm limiting the scope a bunch from the original to make an adequate prototype for the future. Learning and adapting is vital to this project, as there will be a lot of issues to fix.

I'm making this thread so that I can track my progress and discuss my thoughts! It'll also serve to motivate me.

ALSO, if you're interested with helping out with development, let me know.

One thing I've been thinking about is how I can reasonably make players "compete" with each other without causing hard feelings. Player conflict will be a necessary part of the experience to move along the plot. I have plenty of experience with roleplaying games where people develop personal feuds with others because of in-game actions, and I really want to avoid that.

My initial thought was to have teams that could cooperate with each other, but ultimately have to achieve their own goals that conflict with the other teams' goals. I think pushing teams to cooperate sometimes and compete other times would be pretty fun.

So, a little update. I've decided to scrap the roleplaying/story idea and instead focus on making something cool for people to play. Other ideas still remain in effect—limited availability, constrained world, and server-side modding.

pilin mi la roleplay will probably emerge naturally because of resource and land conflicts in a limited space, and also cos it's musi
