Hi everyone! I'm deschutron, aka jan Tesutu, and also now deschutrom because I misspelt my username when signing up here.
I'm in some of the toki pona and loglang spaces. I'm on the tokiponidos Discord server.
I love learning about the linguistics of natural languages, especially etymology and historical linguistics. I natively speak English and learnt German in primary school, and became interested in relationship between English and German, and the whole Indo-European family. Then I learnt Vietnamese in high school and started learning about the language families underlying its vocabulary, both Austro-Asiatic and Chinese. Later, I studied French for work, and was amazed to see how similar English and French are.
I've always been interested in improving my ability to express myself, and avoiding the obligatory mess that English seems to require us to wade through in order to do that - orthographical, grammatical, vocabularial...
As such, I had an idea for a engelang for a long time, to allow highly productive speech from a small vocabulary and simple grammar. After a long time not having enough vocabulary, I decided to look into raiding toki pona for its wordstock, and found that the words and a lot of the grammatical principles fit well with what I had in mind.
So then I created the language Kot Wawa (i.e. toki wawa) for myself and got involved in the toki pona community, and then the tokiponidos community, and then other pockets of the conlang community.
I'm now a bit of tokiponidist, having also made Poki Pona, Snvsdr Dhv and Theavenev Antitemp.
From these experiences, I've come to see conlanging as a way to experiment with ideas about communication, and conlang communities as places to come see those different ideas being applied. I also currently work in the language education sector, and am interested in learning not just how language can be designed but how it can be learnt and taught.
As such, I'm happy to have found this community. I look forward to learning more about the work of all the other clongstronauts.
